Guitar Lessons 5/22

Earlier this week, Liz and I went to the Riverview school to teach guitar. This week, two more students showed up so we have a total of 3 students. Right now we are concentrating on getting them all to the same level so we can teach them together more effectively. During this lesson, I learned that it is much more effective to teach by visually showing and writing down the notes that are to be played is much more effective than just teaching with one of those techniques. Learning for these students seem to progress much faster when the students learn with multiple types of visual aids. I also was able to teach one of the guitar students a few chords a crucial step in further progression in learning guitar.

Open Mic Night - 5/22

Our Open Mic night was tonight, we went to the music room at 4 pm to start setting up and stayed to clean up afterwards as well. A substantial amount of people showed up for the occasion. Through this activity we have learned that the amount of advertising we do for the event directly effects how many people come. If we do more Mic Nights next year, we will advertise for a longer period of time before hand in order to get even more participants. We also played a good set list ourselves which we had been preparing for all week. Overall the Mic Night was a tremendous success and we will donate the money we earned to Nicaraguan orphanages at a later date, hopefully very soon.
